Cherries blackberries and blueberries are some of the best local fruits for a smoothie that tickles your taste buds while also benefiting your health.

Cherries in particular are a great source of antioxidants and come with compounds like ellagic acid, queritrin and perillyl alcohol which help fight chronic diseases like cancer. Need a good night sleep? Cherries will do the trick. They also contain anti-inflammatory properties which helps relieve pain especially for people with arthritis and gout.

Blueberries and blackberries are antioxidant powerhouses which offer anti-cancerous benefits and are also great for your eye health, brain health, and cardiovascular system. You can also include chia seeds in the recipe as they are high in omega 3 fatty acids which promote brain health, help reduce inflammation, and support the cellular function. Omega 3 fatty acids also promote skin health and keeps you full all day long.

You may incorporate flaxseeds in the recipe as a great addition of phytonutrients called lignans which are rich in antioxidants. Flaxseeds also contain anti-inflammatory properties while offering phase II detoxification and cardiovascular support. You may add an agave to such as a honey and vanilla to make the treat sweeter.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 2 cups of organic sweet cherries (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 cups organic blueberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup organic blue berries, fresh or frozen
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ cup low fat yoghurt
  • 2 scoops organic plant based protein powder
  • I cup organic blackberries

Instructions
In a blender, put all the ingredients above and process until smooth.
